Kobe! Hunter Pence rocks basketball legend’s cleats

Some San Francisco Giants are apparently wearing custom Kobe Bryant-branded Nikes during their opening series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The decision to pay homage to a basketball legend might seem peculiar at first. But upon further examination, Kobe’s .356 shooting percentage can also serve as a batting average goal for Hunter Pence, whose been wearing the shoes all spring.

BORLAND STAYS BUSY

Former San Francisco 49er Chris Borland lent his perspective in a discussion after a documentary highlighting the dangers of playing football “Requiem for a Running Back” was shown at a film festival in Detroit last week.

Borland advocated for less hitting in youth-league practice and said he expects the adage that “you play till the wheels fall off,” will prove false as players become more educated about the dangers of playing the game.

The retired linebacker admitted he didn’t watch any NFL games in the year since walking away from football, according to the Detroit Free Press. Something that’s easy to do when your NFL team is the 49ers.

THE PRODIGAL SCOOTER

Pence’s scooter, which was stolen for a second time over the weekend, was returned to the Make-a-Wish foundation after police arrested two suspects. Embattled Mayor Ed Lee delivered the news to the charity’s office himself. Probably because he knew he wouldn’t get shouted down in the process.

THE GENO DYNASTY

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team won the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday, maintaining order in the universe for one more year.
