Keyshia Cole (not to be confused with Ke$ha, Alicia Keys, Shia LaBeouf or the Florida Keys) has accused local powerhouse radio station KMEL of dissing her by promising her a headlining show last Monday at the Warfield and then bumping her for Canadian R&B performer The Weeknd instead.

“EVERY F***ING YEAR I do something major for my city! @KMEL has the nerve to tell me at the last minute they want me to open for the weekend,” she tweeted.

The Oakland-born singer dropped out of the show in protest, but she also claims that the station continued to promote her as being a part of it. “Them still uses my name when I refuse! I feel so f***ing disrespected.”

Don Parker, program director for KMEL, says it was all a big misunderstanding and that Cole was slated to be a “co-headliner” from the outset. “It was really an unfortunate breakdown of communication,” he told Scoop, adding that The Weeknd was always supposed to go on last because his production is very involved and it would take almost 45 minutes to collapse his set.

Parker also claims that as soon as Cole pulled out, the station removed her name from all promo spots and offered refunds.

“We still have a ton of respect for Keyshia,” Parker says. “Always have, always will. To have her feel like we somehow disrespected her is unfortunate.”
