New Raider Bruce Irvin accounted for 22 sacks over four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and was widely regarded as one of the best pass-rushing linebackers in the NFL. He also believes he was misused schematically, according to a report by Raiders.com. “Seattle kind of limited me in that defense … but I haven’t scratched the surface. I’m far from it.” Assume he’s dead wrong: Irvin and Khalil Mack will still be terrifying for opposing quarterbacks.
Barry Bonds reminded the world why he is the Greatest of All Time (emphasis on “time”) Wednesday when, according to Craig Mish, he beat the current bunch of Miami Marlins in a batting practice contest on a back field at the team’s spring training facility. According to MLB.com, the 51-year-old Giants icon — Miami’s new hitting coach — swatted more long balls than young power hitters Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich. Bonds responded with “No comment” when reporters asked about his performance, lest you thought he’s lost his signature touch with the media.

COACH MIGHTY MOUSE
Former Portland Trail Blazer star Damon Stoudamire was hired by the University of Pacific to be the head coach of its men’s basketball team. It’s his first run at leading a program and it won’t be easy as he’ll have to recruit players to Stockton and overcome mid-major powerhouses Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.
THAT GOOSE IS RACIST
In Goose Gossage’s latest attempt to complain about those damn kids, he told a New York Post reporter, “It breaks my heart the way the game is going. What, do we want a bunch of Cam Newtons running around?” It’s a strange response to a question about baseball, if it came from anyone else. For their part, the Carolina Panthers tweeted a video of Cam celebrating a win by running around, slapping hands with fans with the message, “We love the way this guy runs around.” As they should.
