She may not reside in San Francisco anymore — last reports listed her as residing in New Orleans. But we can still claim Houston-born country/Gothic-blues guitarist Jolie Holland as one of her own, since she launched her career from here back in 2003 with her demo anthology “Catalpa.”
Wherever she calls home, however, the lady is back June 28 via her latest Anti-Records imprint with “Pint of Blood,” her fifth full-lengther. It, too, was essentially done DIY style, recorded at her home studio with co-producer Shahzad Ismail.
And if you can’t wait to check out folksy new tracks like “Remember” and “All Those Girls,” Holland is offering an advance streaming sample of the song “Gold And Yellow” via Soundcloud.
No wonder one of her biggest boosters is Tom Waits. She’s also worked with such stellar talents as Marc Ribot, M. Ward, Hal Willner, Greg Graffin, David Gray, Sage Francis and Booker T. Jones.
Holland’s East Coast tour begins June 28 at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, and she’ll be announcing the West Coast leg shortly at www.jolieholland.com.
