Izzies honor the best of 2015-16 Bay Area dance

An inspirational time was had by all at the 31st annual Izzie Awards, honoring the best of the Bay Area’s vibrant dance community, on Monday at Brava in The City.

Among the honorees for special achievement were designer Sean Riley, presenter Ruth Felt, teacher Augusta Moore, choreographer Sara Shelton Mann, ballet dancers Joan Boada, Pascal Molat and Gennadi Nedvigin, hula legend Patrick Makuakane and creators of “Shiva,” the final work of Chitresh Das, which was made after the Indian dance master died.

Honored for achievements in 2016 were MoonCandy and Valerie Troutt, Crystaldawn Bell and Norma Fong, James Graham and Sebastian Grubb, Carolina Czechowska, Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company, Delinadream Productions, Liam Scarlett and Dexandro “D” Montalvo.

Eddie Madril, who emceed the event with Deborah Slater, closed the evening with an amazing hoop dance.
