Convincing the state legislature to support the most expensive public works project in the history of California at a time when governments across the globe are enacting drastic austerity measures cannot be an easy task.
But that will be the job for Karen Greene Ross, the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s first legislative liaison. The authority announced the hiring this week of Ross, an attorney with longtime Capitol experience.
Ross has worked as the deputy controller for investments with the Office of the California State Controller and as the deputy secretary for legislation in the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
Now, she’ll be in charge of working with the California State Legislature on issues related to the controversial high-speed rail project, which is slated to one day carry passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in just over 2½ hours.
