Hard news’ John Dickerson joins ‘CBS This Morning’

Looks like “CBS This Morning” is staying on the newsy side.

John Dickerson, anchor of “Face The Nation,” is taking Charlie Rose’s place on “CBS This Morning” after Rose was unceremoniously ousted in November following multiple allegations of sexual impropriety.

Starting today, Dickerson joins fellow hosts Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King on the daytime talk show, CBS announced Tuesday.

Dickerson, 49, a Washington D.C. native who came to CBS in 2009 as an analyst and contributor and by 2011 was named political director, also is chief Washington correspondent for CBS News and a political columnist for Slate magazine.

CBS cut ties with longtime host Rose after The Washington Post reported that eight women accused him of inappropriate sexual conduct, including exposing himself and make lewd phone calls to them while working on PBS’ “Charlie Rose” show.

Rose also was fired from that show, replaced by Christiane Amanpour in December.

Some critics have noticed a parallel problem at NBC, which sacked Matt Lauer from “Today” following news of his egregious conduct. However, Lauer was replaced by Hoda Kotb, and the all-female anchor duo has proved successful: Savannah Guthrie and Kotb have topped the ratings since Kotb joined the team.

MARCHESA’S MISSING

Celebrity observers from the Los Angeles Times noted that actresses on the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards were not wearing Marchesa, the brand started by Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, the ex of disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein.

“The Crown’s” Claire Foy was in a Stella McCartney suit, “The Handmaid’s Tale’s” Samira Wiley in a black Romona Keveža Collection gown, Elisabeth Moss and Natalie Portman in Dior (which named Maria Grazia Chiuri as its first female artistic director in 2016) and Sam Rockwell, Diane Kruger and Gary Oldman wore Prada.

In contrast: Sienna Miller, Jennifer Lopez, Sandra Bullock and Octavia Spencer notably wore the label on high-profile red carpets in the past decade — under duress, perhaps?

Despite Weinstein critic Rose McGowan’s outburst (and later apology) regarding the label, some argued that wearing Marchesa might actually have been the best way possible to highlight the issue of sexual harassment.
