Golden State Warriors to participate in California Classic Summer League in Sacramento

The Golden State Warriors announced on Monday that they will be participating in the new California Classic Summer League at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento this July.

The Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers will play six games from July 2-5, with rosters featuring rookies selected in the 2018 NBA Draft, second-year players and other athletes competing to make NBA and G League roster spots.

Rookie Jordan Bell — who has seen his minutes decline due to the emergence of Kevon Looney — has averaged just 4.9 minutes per game in the playoffs, and is a likely candidate to head to the Summer League.

The NBA Draft Lottery happens on Tuesday night at 4:30 p.m. Pacific, with the actual draft taking place on June 21 at 4 p.m. Pacific at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The first-year Sacramento league will be the third summer-league site, joining Las Vegas and Utah, and will replace Orlando. Doubleheaders will be played each of the three days of competition — Monday, July 2; Tues., July 3 and Thurs., July 5 — with all four teams participating. No games will be played on July 4. The games will include modified game play rules, including 10-minute quarters.

Golden State will also participate in the Las Vegas Summer League July 6-17.

More Scheduling Notes

The Lakers announced their preseason schedule on Monday, and it features an Oct. 10, 2018 preseason game against Golden State at T-Mobile Arena at 7 p.m. Los Angeles will also conclude the preseason with a re-match against Golden State at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2018, at the SAP Center in San Jose. In February, the Sacramento Bee reported that the Warriors could also play a preseason game against the Kings in Seattle at Key Arena on Oct. 6, though nothing has been finalized.
