Golden Gate Park clubhouse to be demolished after 2-alarm fire damage

The Golden Gate Park Golf Course clubhouse is set to be demolished sometime within the coming week after it sustained extensive damage in a two-alarm fire Monday morning, San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department officials said Friday.

Firefighters initially responded around 3:02 a.m. to the clubhouse, located at 970 47th Avenue.

After battling the blaze for about an hour, firefighters were able to bring it under control, according to fire officials.

Although no injuries were reported, the fire totaled the clubhouse. The golf course is currently closed until further notice.

Recreation and parks officials said that after the clubhouse is demolished, the site will be cleared of debris and the golf course will be reopened to the public, although a date has not been set.

A cause for the fire remains under investigation, Lt. Jonathan Baxter said Thursday.

The clubhouse was built in 1951, according to Recreation and Parks officials.
