Giants overcome another Giancarlo Stanton bomb, pile on runs against Marlins

Madison Bumgarner didn’t have his best stuff on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.

The San Francisco Giants’ ace struggled (relatively) through six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. He even gave up a no-doubt home run to Giancarlo Stanton (unsurprising) and another solo shot to catcher AJ Ellis (particularly more surprising).

But the Giants lineup supported the lefty with three runs in the seventh, which the bullpen converted into a 9-4 win.

In that fateful frame, Carlos Moncrief got on base with an RBI single and attempted to go from first base to third — in a possibly ill-advised decision —  but Stanton overthrew his target, rewarding Moncrief’s aggressive base running.

Ryder Jones had his best game at the plate as a big-leaguer, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

The Marlins didn’t score again after Ellis’ blast as Mark Melancon, Hunter Strickland and Cory Gearrin combined to throw three scoreless innings, securing Bumgarner’s third win of the season.
