It turns out that 51 conventionally beautiful women were no match for a rerun of “Full House.”
The Miss USA pageant, which was dropped by NBC and Univision after co-owner Donald Trump likened Mexican immigrants to rapists and drug-dealers, was a ratings disaster. Only 925,000 viewers saw Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma crowned Miss USA on Sunday.
That’s down from 5.4 million viewers last year, according to the New York Daily News, although a pageant insider told the Daily News that organizers were happy the show aired at all on the obscure Reelz channel.
An old episode of “Full House” that aired at the same time pulled in 927,000 viewers. Of course, a decades-old sitcom packed more star power than the beauty broadcast. The pageant scraped together new hosts (game-show host Todd Newton and former Miss Wisconsin Alex Wehrley) after original hosts Cheryl Burke and Thomas Roberts quit following Trump’s comments, along with musical performers Flo Rida and J Balvin.
