Less than a week after he was found not guilty in a set of double shooting murders from five years ago, Aaron Hernandez killed himself in prison.
The Massachusetts Department of Correction confirmed Wednesday morning that Aaron Hernandez was found hanged in his Shirley prison cell at 3:05 a.m. Workers tried to use life-saving techniques on the inmate before he was transported to UMass Leominster. By 4:07 a.m., he was pronounced dead.
Hernandez used a bed sheet attached to a prison cell window to commit suicide. He blocked the entrance to his cell by stuffing the doorway with various items, according to the DOC. Massachusetts State Police are investigating the suicide.
Aaron Hernandez was serving a life sentence at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013.
