Firehouse for sale, ‘significant’ investment required

Are you in the market for a brick firehouse covered in graffiti? Well, you may want to put in a bid for 909 Tennessee St., a former fire station that is up for sale to help bridge the Fire Department’s budget deficit.

Constructed in 1925, the building has been mostly serving as a museum since 1970, when the fire engine was taken out of service. Recently, it has been used to house historic fire engines that have also been taken out of service.

But, alas, tough budgetary times call for tough budgetary measures and the department hopes to get $725,000 out of the property in a down economic climate. The building is a two-story, unreinforced brick building with no sprinklers on approximately 5,000 square feet of land.

“It would require a significant capital investment to bring the building up to code,” according to the Fire Commission.
