A chimney fire near San Francisco’s busiest tourist area disrupted Muni service around Pier 39, forcing Sunday sightseers into shuttle buses.
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. at Jefferson and Taylor streets and was quickly brought under control, fire officials said. However, the emergency vehicles in the area required the historic streetcars of Muni’s F-Market line to turn around at Pier 39. Muni officials sent shuttle buses to serve the rest of the line, from Pier 39 to Jones Street.
“Inspectors were on the ground to help folks get to where they needed to be,” Muni spokeswoman Kristen Hollan said.
Visiting San Francisco from Princeton, N.J., tourist Lynn Ringland said she appreciated the shuttles but was disappointed she couldn’t ride the historic streetcar.
