Ava: Writer-director Sadaf Foroughi’s debut film, based on her own adolescent experiences, is about an Iranian girl from a well-to-do family in Tehran coming of age in a strict, traditional society. Not rated. At the Roxie.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation: The extended family of monsters heads out on a luxury cruise ship in the cartoon featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez and Mel Brooks. Rated PG.

The Misandrists: Bruce LaBruce’s satiric comedy (for adults only, people under 18 not admitted) is about a radical feminist group plotting a revolution to overthrow patriarchy. Not rated. At the Opera Plaza.

Skyscraper: Wrongly held responsible for a fire in the world’s tallest building, a former FBI agent and security expert played by Dwayne Johnson must bring the guilty parties to justice and rescue his family. Rated PG-13.

Under the Tree: The deadpan dramatic comedy from Iceland is about a petty squabble between neighbors that escalates unexpectedly, building to boiling point and explosion. Not rated. At the Opera Plaza.
