The Bookshop: Emily Mortimer plays a free-spirited widow who risks everything to open a bookshop in a conservative East Anglian coastal town, inspiring both admiration and opposition. Rated PG. At the Clay.

Crime + Punishment: The documentary by Stephen Maing details the daily lives and struggles of black and Latino New York Police Department officers, against the backdrop of a landmark class-action lawsuit over illegal policing quotas. Not rated. At the Roxie.

Gabriel and the Mountain: A college-bound Brazilian student decides to take a year off to travel in Africa, and his spiritual quest takes him to the heights of Mount Mulanje in Malawi. Not rated. At the Opera Plaza.

John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection: Narrated by Mathieu Amalric, the documentary by Julien Faraut focuses on the tempestuous left-handed American tennis star at the 1984 French Open. Not rated. At the Opera Plaza.

Kin: An ex-con and his adopted brother, possessing a strange weapon of unknown origin, are pursued by a ruthless criminal, federal agents and otherworldly soldiers in the movie starring Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz, Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid, James Franco and Myles Truitt. Rated PG-13.

The Little Stranger: Based on the novel by Sarah Waters, the 1947-set movie stars Domhnall Gleeson as a country doctor who’s called to the home of a wealthy family where his mother once worked to discover a terrifying connection to his own life. Rated R.

Operation Finale: Oscar Isaac plays an Israeli agent tasked with spiriting Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley) out of Argentina 15 years after World War II. Rated PG-13.

Rodents of Unusual Size
: The film looks at hordes of South American swamp rats, an invasive species known as nutria, that are threatening the coastal wetlands of Louisiana. Not rated. At Alamo Drafthouse.
