Alpha: The action-adventure movie set 20,000 years ago stars Kodi Smit-McPhee as a young man struggling to survive with an unlikely ally, a wolf. Rated PG-13.

The Captain: Near the end of World War II, a German army deserter discovers a Nazi uniform and undergoes a disturbing transformation in the German film written and directed by Robert Schwentke. Not rated. At the Clay.

Crazy Rich Asians: In the romantic comedy-drama based on the book by Kevin Kwan, a woman learns more about her boyfriend and his family after traveling to Singapore for a wedding. Rated PG-13.

Mile 22: Mark Wahlberg stars in the action film about an elite CIA task force that has to escort a high-priority asset 22 miles to an extraction point while being hunted by terrorists. Rated R.

Minding the Gap: The documentary by Bing Liu — shot over 12 years — follows three young skateboarders in their Rust Belt hometown as face new responsibilities unexpected revelations that threaten their decade-long friendship. Not rated. At the Roxie.

Skate Kitchen: A introverted teenage girl joins an all-girl New York skateboard collective and falls for a mysterious guy in the movie directed by Crystal Moselle. Rated R. At the Embarcadero and AMC Kabuki.
