Ferry project receives funds

Trending Articles

The construction of Oyster Point Ferry Terminal, which has been beset by delays in recent years, received a boost this week.

The $51 million project secured $3 million in federal stimulus funds to help build a new ferry terminal.

The project has been postponed several times in the past five years because of funding constraints.

Once it is completed, ferries will take passengers between South City and Oakland’s Jack London Square, giving riders a chance to sail past Bay Bridge traffic in 30 minutes.

Traffic on and near the Bay Bridge is expected to lessen when service begins. The Water Emergency Transportation Authority expects daily ridership to reach 1,000 by 2025.

Work on the project is expected to start Oct. 19.
