Feist recording new album in Big Sur

Trending Articles

If TV-series/advertising placement is the new radio, then Canadian chanteuse Leslie Feist — who performs simply as Feist — is the brave new medium’s Marconi.

Her whimsical “1234” classic put her on the pop-chart map, once it gained mass-media exposure as the background music for an iPod Nano commercial four years ago. It also pushed its parent album “The Reminder” past platinum status.

A long wait for stardom after launching a solo career back in 1999.

But now the lovably eccentric singer — born in Nova Scotia to fine-artist parents — is a household word on the alternative scene, and pals with such equally inventive trailblazers as Peaches.

But the multiple-Juno-winning Feist has apparently been spending quite a lot of time in California. Specifically, Big Sur, where she’s quietly been piecing together her “Reminder” followup — “Metal,” which will hit shelves Oct. 4 via Cherrytree/Interscope.

It was co-produced with Peaches alum Chilly Gonzalez, plus Mocky and Bjork associate Valgeir Sigurosson. And she’ll be offering 12 separate track-teasing vignettes of “Metal” at her website, www.listentofeist.com. Where you can study them and place bets on which ones will find soundtrack placement first. More details coming soon.
