San Francisco police officers discovered an explosive device while searching a vehicle in San Francisco’s Sunset District Tuesday afternoon.
Officer Robert Rueca, a San Francisco police spokesperson, said the device, discovered during a traffic stop near 19th Ave. and Sloat Blvd., was “homemade,” but did not provide a detailed description.
Rueca said the driver, a 30-year-old man, and his passenger, a 27-year-old woman, were both arrested. Police did not immediately identify the suspects or list the charges they were booked on, but Rueca said the driver had a parole violation.
The explosive was seized by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit. Rueca said the unit typically disposes of such devices “as as soon as they are able to safely do so”, and noted that it is “most likely already gone.”
