Evacuations ordered due to 100-acre fire near Lake Berryessa

A fire that began early Friday afternoon near Lake Berryessa in Napa County had burned 100 acres and was 10 percent contained as of 4:30 p.m., fire officials said.

Dry brush and pockets of timber were burning near Berryessa Knoxville Road and state Highway 128 in the Capell Valley area in northern Napa County, a Cal Fire spokesperson said.

Mandatory evacuations remained in effect along the highway, from Turtle Rock to the Sommerston Estate Winery, located at 3450 Sage Canyon Road, and evacuations are advised between Turtle Rock and Capell Valley Crest, Cal Fire said.

The highway was closed between Capell Valley Crest and Sommerston Estate Winery is closed, Cal Fire said.

The Canyon Fire blaze was reported at 12:57 p.m. at the highway, also known as Sage Canyon Road, and Berryessa Knoxville Road, Cal Fire said.

About 162 firefighters have responded, Cal Fire spokesperson Suzie Blankenship said. The cause is under investigation.

Road closures also included Sage Canyon Road at Lower Chiles Valley Road, Highway 128 to Moskowite Corner and Knoxville Road at Spanish Flats, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.
