Google — which owns YouTube — made good on its promise to clean house at the site by removing more than 2 billion (yes, with a “B”) fake view counts from its stats.

According to The Huffington Post, the Web giant blasted music companies such as Universal and Sony for “deliberately” and “artificially” inflating their numbers by using “black hat” (read: unethical) social media optimizers.

Though biggies Rihanna and Justin Bieber, among others, saw their numbers decrease, there’s still good news for Psy.

“Gangnam Style” really did apparently get more than 1 billion hits this year without the employ of thousands of rhesus monkeys hooked up to a pellet reward system.
