Although the world reeled from Saturday’s news that Whitney Houston was found dead at 48, a source tells People magazine the shocking turn of events was, frankly, not unexpected.
“As sad as this sounds, it’s not a great surprise and yet, it’s unbelievable,” the source says. “There are demons she fought privately and publicly for many years.”
The “Greatest Love of All” singer had recently finished filming the movie “Sparkle” with Jordin Sparks, and appeared to be getting back on track after battling substance abuse over the years — at least, before her last days, during which she was photographed looking disheveled and out of it.
“While doing ‘Sparkle’ she was seemingly in a good place, but the demons run deep,” says the source. “Very deep.”
“She’s been on a downward spiral for a long time,” the insider explains, “and when you have those people around you that enable the behavior ... she couldn’t shake those demons.”
An autopsy has been conducted, but the cause of Whitney’s death is still undetermined pending toxicology test results.
TMZ reports the R&B icon’s body was flown back to her family in New Jersey on Monday on Tyler Perry’s private plane, after he offered its use. Her funeral is said to be planned for later this week; according to one report, it will be a public event held at an arena in Newark, N.J.
Kim and Reggie: Reunion?
Is Kim Kardashian reconciling with her ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush? The reality star and the running back were spotted lunching together at the Beverly Hills Hotel — not exactly an under-the-radar destination — and allegedly the old sparks were flying between them.
Sources tell TMZ the pair has spent a lot of time together lately.
“Kim and Reggie had a late brunch” over the weekend, a source relayed to the website Hollywood Life. “They sat in the outdoor patio area for almost two hours eating, laughing and definitely flirting. Kim had the McCarthy salad and Reggie had eggs Benedict. They split two appetizers, including the chicken tortilla soup and the jumbo-lump crab cake. They sat toward the back in the patio, which is more intimate and private.”
Yet still very much out in the open … an interesting choice for a woman who supposedly went into seclusion after filing for divorce from Kris Humphries.
Think Kim and Reggie are back on? Or just flirting?
The latest in an ever-growing series of courageous celebs has come out of the closet. “White Collar” star Matt Bomer made it known without fanfare that he is a gay man while accepting a humanitarian award for his HIV/AIDS activism Saturday night.
The actor showed his gratitude to his “beautiful family,” publicist partner Simon Halls and their three children, saying, “Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.”
Congrats, Matt — on your award, your beautiful family, and your choice to be out and proud!
