The ninth annual San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival, “3rd i,” running Wednesday through Sunday in The City, is dedicated to promoting diverse images of South Asians through independent film.

The roster includes art-house classics, documentaries, experimental and Bollywood features, as well as movies made by San Francisco filmmakers.

Among highlight films screening at the Roxie are: “Big in Bollywood,” a documentary and spoof, at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday; “Patang” (“The Kite”), a family drama, at 7:20 p.m. Friday; “Semshook,” a journey through the Himalayas, at 9:45 p.m. Friday; “Boxing Ladies,” about three Muslim sisters from Kolkata who became national boxing champions, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday; “Play Like a Lion,” a video biography of maestro Ali Akbar Khan, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and “Pudhupettai,” about the rise of a petty criminal to powerful gang lord in the slums of Chennai, at 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

Notable screenings at the Castro include “I Am Sindhutai Sapka,” about a woman fighting for abandoned children’s rights in an Indian village, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and “Delhi Belly,” an “adults only” comedy in Bollywood, 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
