The Concert for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital: On Thursday, Alanis Morissette and Jay Leno appeared in a big benefit show at Davies Symphony Hall. Proceeds from the event, which was underwritten by the Salesforce.com Foundation, will go toward building a new home for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus. The 183-bed facility is slated for completion in 2014.

New American bistro debuts

Park Tavern opening: Last Tuesday, Gilt City celebrated the  grand opening of a new North Beach eatery at 1652 Stockton St. The market-driven American bar and bistro on Washington Square, run by Anna Weinberg, features a menu of bold, modern favorites by chef Jennifer Puccio along with specialty  cocktails.

Hospital patrons prepare for gala

Hob Nob benefactors reception: The Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation, which provides financial support to the facility and its programs, gathered Thursday in The City to begin preparations for its major fundraiser, the Holiday Hob Nob on the Hill. The 2011 gala is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Fairmont Hotel.
