Cellist Peter Wyrick is in second run with San Francisco Symphony

Centennial players: In honor of the San Francisco Symphony’s 100th season, The Examiner is showcasing contributors to the orchestra’s distinguished history.

Peter Wyrick, cello

The associate principal cellist, who occupies the Peter & Jacqueline Hoefer Chair, was an assistant principal player with the San Francisco Symphony from 1986-90 and returned in 2000. As a member of the Ridge String Quartet, he recorded Dvorák piano quintets with Rudolf Firkusny for a Grammy-nominated disc. He also recorded Fauré cello sonatas with pianist Earl Wild. He has performed in the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, at New York City Opera and at major festivals. He and his wife, San Francisco Symphony violinist Amy Hiraga, have two teen daughters, violinist Mayumi Wyrick and cellist Mariko Wyrick.
