Gala held in San Francisco for ‘Tales of the City’

ACT opening-night gala: Representing the culmination of a two-year effort to bring a musical version of famous San Francisco stories to the stage, stars came out Wednesday to celebrate the American Conservatory Theater’s world premiere of “Armistead Maupin’s ‘Tales of the City.’” The black-tie event — which raised $950,000 for the production and ACT education programs — included cocktails, dinner in Union Square, the show’s performance and a nightclub dance party. Marilee K. Gardner, JaMel Perkins and Roselyne C. Swig were organizers.  

Stern Grove’s 74th season celebrated at fundraiser 

Stern Grove gala: On Thursday, some 200 patrons celebrated Stern Grove Festival’s upcoming 74th season of free concerts — and education programs — at its yearly fundraiser. Organized by Eliza Cash, Sakurako Fisher, Patsy Lurie and Jane Wolf, the event, held in the grove, raised $270,000 for the group’s annual campaign.

Restoration Hardware opens ‘child gallery’

Restoration Hardware reception: The home-furnishings retailer opened what it calls its first baby and child gallery Friday in Corte Madera. The space represents an “attempt to create a complete reconsideration of how people view nurseries and children’s rooms,” according to Gary Friedman, chairman and co-CEO.

Crystals sparkle at Swarovski

Swarovski opening: The fashion-jewelry and crystal-decor retailer celebrated its new Geary Street store with a reception Thursday. Among featured designs in the store is a chandelier with 33,000 crystals inspired by Lombard Street.
