Celebrate With Heart Gala: On Thursday at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, the local American Heart Association hosted a benefit event, with proceeds going toward efforts to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke and end the childhood obesity epidemic. Money raised  goes directly to local research, development and community outreach programs.

Leaders celebrate UCSF stem cell center

Ray and Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building opening: On Feb. 9 at UC San Francisco’s Parnassus Campus, scientists, philanthropists and civic leaders celebrated the new headquarters for the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research. The program, which extends across UCSF locations, is among the most comprehensive of its kind in the country.

Teens honored for leadership, service

Charles Schwab Youth of the Year Luncheon: At its third annual event Feb. 9 at the St. Francis Hotel, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco named Lick-Wilmerding High School student Jezi Correa — one of seven finalists — as its 2011 Charles Schwab Citywide Youth of Year. The teens were recognized for their academic accomplishments, leadership skills, moral character and service to the Boys & Girls Clubs and their community.
