SAN FRANCISCO — We knew it was only a matter of time before Britney Spears’ not-being-a-train-wreck streak was broken. In fairness, the pop comeback queen’s latest snafu was nothing compared to, say, shaving her head and beating an SUV with an umbrella — but she did infuriate thousands of fans who had paid to see her perform.
At Wednesday night’s Vancouver stop on her “Circus” tour (which comes to San Jose on Sunday), the “Womanizer” singer performed just a few songs before abruptly leaving the stage — for more than half an hour. Boos ensued from the angry crowd. A voice came over the loudspeaker saying that the stadium was too smoky due to the (prohibited) cigarettes audience members were lighting up.
After returning to the stage, Britney performed 1½ songs before again leaving the stage, mid-tune.
A message on Brit’s Web site after the incident read: “We want to apologize to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney’s set. Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue.” Uh, and Britney somehow intuited this and went to their aid?
Breakup or Break?
Is it really over between Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson? Despite all the drama, the on-off couple could conceivably reunite — after all, they’ve gotten back together after big blowouts before.
“It changes every five seconds,” a pal of the actress told People magazine. “It is up in the air with them. You never know.
“Whether [Sam] is right for her now, I don’t know,” confided the friend. “They both need to be separate for a while. She just needs some space.”
LiLo herself maintained to E! that she and her sometime gal pal are just taking a break “to focus on ourselves.”
But that’s not the story coming from Team Sam. A source close to the DJ declared to Page Six, “They are definitely broken up — hopefully this time it’s forever.” Hate to say it, Linds, but it may be time to let go.
Travoltas: Healing
It’s been more than four months since John Travolta and Kelly Preston went through every parent’s worst nightmare: the loss of their son, Jett, who died at 16 after having a seizure. Since then, the grieving couple has been way off the Hollywood radar. But they are reportedly beginning to return to some semblance of normal life.
“They aren’t secluding themselves or paralyzed,” a family friend told People, adding that a recent get-together “was like old times. Nothing awkward and no topics to dance around. There were smiles.”
“They’re relying on their faith to get them through this,” the pal says. “Their faith is solid, and their family is solid.”
Chimes in family friend and fellow Scientologist Leah Remini, “How do you deal with the greatest tragedy in your life? I can tell you that they are handling it the best any parent could ever deal.”
Springsteen: Homewrecker?
Bruce Springsteen is considered to be something of an American hero … but a new bombshell could besmirch the Boss’s rep. A New Jersey man is suing his wife for divorce and naming the rock icon as the man she had an affair with.
Papers filed in the case claim the woman “committed adultery with one Bruce Springsteen” — and we all know there’s only one Bruce Springsteen — at various times and places too numerous to mention.”
The woman “says she and Bruce are just friends, but there have been rumors going around the area for more than a year that they had gotten way too close after meeting at a local gym,” a source told Star magazine.
We’re not sure what’s a more shocking prospect — that the do-gooder rocker might have cheated on second wife Patti Scialfa after 17 years … or that Star might actually have broken a legit story.
