‘From the Hood to the House’: On Thursday at the War Memorial Opera House, local luminaries came out for a concert honoring the Rev. Cecil Williams’ 45th anniversary at Glide Memorial Church. The performance — a holiday benefit for Mo’s Kitchen and Glide’s many community services — featured Maya Angelou, Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet and San Francisco Opera Adler fellows.

 

Greek-Americans honor heritage

Hellenic Charity Ball: Greek-Americans celebrated at the Elios Society’s seventh annual gala Nov. 7 at the Fairmont Hotel in The City. Proceeds benefitted programs like “The Eye of the Painter: Ancient Greek Pottery Art,” in conjunction with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Honorees were actors George Chakiris and Michael Chiklis, writer Nicholas Gage and actress-author Marilu Henner. Singer Kalomira received the Elios Spotlight Award.

 

Fashion, function meet at Façonnable

Façonnable boutique opening: The French purveyor of fine men’s and women’s clothing opened a new San Francisco store in a benefit event last week attended by Vandy and David Boudreau, Kathryn and Bill Freeman, and Erin and John Lowenberg. Proceeds go to Children of Shelters, a group helping thousands of youngsters living in transitional situations.
