Foundation for AIDS Research gala: The 11th annual amfAR benefit Saturday at the Four Seasons in San Francisco netted $440,000 for the organization, which supports AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment, education and public policy advocacy. Honorees were Stephen Brady and Peter Poulos, who received awards from Gap executives Julie Rosen and Amy Schoening and former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos.
Leaders in fight against cancer share spotlight
‘The Legacy Anniversary’: The Northern California Cancer Center’s “Celebrating 35 Years — The Legacy Anniversary,” held last week at Bonhams & Butterfields, honored cancer-fighting advocates Hilary Newsom Callan and Geoff Callan and Dr. Alice Whittemore of Stanford University School of Medicine. Carol Bartz, CEO of Yahoo, served as keynote speaker.
A gala for and from the heart
Kickoff event: The San Francisco Heart & Stroke Society hosted a party last week at the home of Dorothy and Ken Paige to benefit the American Heart Association. The gathering was held to anticipate the 26th annual Celebrate with Heart Gala. Chaired by Joe Saunders, the bash is slated for Feb. 4 at the Four Seasons.
