This Friday night try drinking at Aziza. This bar brings together the most unusual of flavors through bartender Farnoush Deylamian’s muddle method of grinding fresh ingredients into all their cocktails. They have expanded their signature drink menu from four cocktails to 25. [5800 Geary Blvd., S.F.]

Eating

Wakuriya: This restaurant in San Mateo, brings a little bit of Kyoto right here to the Bay Area, with Kyoto-trained chefs Katsushiro Yamasake and Mika Matsuda constructing a single set of kaiseki dishes each night. [Crystal Springs Village Shopping Center, 115 De Anza Blvd., San Mateo]

On the town

 

String band: Hot Buttered Rum, a locally-based progressive bluegrass band, performs at the Fillmore. Blue Turtle Seduction opens the evening. [9 p.m., 1805 Geary Blvd.]

Route: Ride west (away from the Bay) on 16th Street, left on Kansas, right on 17th Street, follow 17th across the Mission and Castro, fork left onto Corbett Avenue, hard right onto Clayton Street, left onto Parnassus Avenue, left on 6th Avenue, right onto Kirkham, follow Kirkham Street across the Sunset to the Great Highway and Ocean Beach.
Bike Network: 100 percent (S.F. Bike Route 40)
Complete for bikes: 15 percent (bike lanes coming soon to 17th and Kirkham streets)
Stop and check out: Vistas from Tank Hill (side trip up Clarendon off Clayton) and Parnassus Heights

Picchetti Ranch and Winery: Created in the early ’70s to preserve the “green backdrop of hills … and cool forests in the Coast Range,” Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District has successfully maintained 550 square miles of welcoming wildland. Nonprofit partners, including Peninsula Open Space Trust, help raise money not only to keep these spaces open, but also to create more. Enjoy some of the lands of the labor at Picchetti Ranch and Winery near Cupertino, where easy hiking, roaming peacocks, and an afternoon of wine-tasting go hand in hand. Or take on a more robust 7-mile jaunt through lush Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, traversing fern canyons that stoke distant views of Half Moon Bay and the Pacific.
