Nissan vehicle sales in US rise 5.6 percent, year to date sales decline 24 percent

NEW YORK — Nissan North America Inc. said Tuesday its October auto sales rose 5.6 percent, driven by a jump in Nissan models sales, offset falling sales in Infiniti models.

BY THE NUMBERS: Combined sales of Nissan and Infiniti models dropped in October to 60,115 units from 56,945 in the year-earlier month. So far this year, total company sales in the U.S. have dropped 24 percent to 640,411 from 842,644.

THE DIVISIONS: Nissan vehicles posted sales of 53,664 last month compared with 49,833 in October 2008, a 7.7 percent increase. Infiniti sales fell to 6,451 units, down 9.3 percent from 7,112.

TOP SELLER: The Japanese company's top seller in the U.S. last month was the Altima sedan, with 14,773 units sold.
