MEXICO CITY — The World Bank says it has approved a $1.5 billion loan to support economic stimulus and reform programs in Mexico, and a $491 million loan for Mexico's efforts against swine flu.

The bank says in a statement the interest on the loans will be variable based on a 6-month interbank rate, on a 10-year and 18-year basis, respectively.

The economic loan will support government efforts to stimulate the job market, carry out tax and regulatory reform, and improve access to the formal financial sector and consumer protection.

The swine flu loan will focus on prevention and control efforts, including vaccines, treatments and improved monitoring and detection.
