ATLANTA — Delta Air Lines said Friday it received a one-year contract from Chilean airline LAN SA to install winglets on some of the Latin American airline's Boeing 767 aircraft.

Delta TechOps will install the winglets, which are wingtip extenders that increase aircraft efficiency, and provide airframe maintenance services to the Santiago, Chile-based carrier.

The winglets will reduce LAN's fuel usage by about 450,000 tons per year and decrease carbon dioxide emissions for each aircraft by five percent.

In afternoon trading, Delta Air Lines fell 17 cents to $8.99, and American Depositary Shares of LAN rose 3 cents to $12.73.
