For most folks, kettlebells are just those weird cast-iron doohickeys gathering dust at the YMCA’s gym. For Sean “Diddy” Combs, a kettlebell was his beloved family’s only defense during a nasty scuffle Monday in a UCLA weight room.
“What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son,” Nathalie Moar, a rep for Combs Enterprises, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.”
Combs Enterprises, which sounds like the kind of evil conglomerate that James Bond should be infiltrating, weighed in after Combs was released from jail Monday night. UCLA accused him of assault with a deadly weapon, battery and one count of making terrorist threats, which means that kettlebell must have been pretty darn heavy.
Dad of the Year 2015 was visiting his son Justin Combs, who has played only a handful of games during three years as a defensive back on the UCLA football team. TMZ reported Tuesday that strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi was berating the 21-year-old during a training session, screaming, “I don’t care if your dad’s here. This is UCLA. I’m going to treat you just like I treat everyone else.”
Alosi, a former assistant coach for the New York Jets, was forced to resign from his NFL post in 2011 after allegedly tripping a Miami Dolphins player from the sidelines.
Combs’ kettlebell-swinging performance did win him one fan.
“I thank God for having a father that’s always there for me,” Justin Combs posted on Instagram on Tuesday. “Love you pops!”
