Let’s all just admit it — he could be simply clanking a cowbell onstage instead of manning his usual hi-tech electronic arsenal, and we’d love the Grammy-nominated artist Deadmau5 anyway, just for those ever-morphing giant mouseheads he sports up there.
Seriously — his Mickey-turned-deliciously-evil masks are that awesome. And if you haven’t seen the guy — nee Joel Zimmerman — now you have two unique opportunities. His Meowingtons Hax tour (named after his favorite pet feline, Professor Meowingtons) kicks off Aug. 7 at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, and will hit San Francisco on Aug. 14 at Outside Lands.
Or you could grab a copy of his upcoming concert DVD (out Aug. 2) “Live At Earl’s Court,” on Ultra Music. It was taped last year at London’s prestigious Earl’s Court, where Deadmau5 was the first electronic artist ever to sell out its 19,000 seats, and it features staples like “Some Chords,” “Ghost ‘N’ Stuff,” and “Sometimes Things Get Whatever,” plus a rare on-camera interview and a time-lapse video of his elaborate stage being set up. And he’s also running his “Design The Next Mau5head” contest until July 13, wherein all street/fine artists, graphic designers and illustrators are invited to take that crazy mouse logo and run with it.
