We totally thought the “Harry Potter” cast had escaped the usual curse of substance abuse that seems to plague child stars. But leading man Daniel Radcliffe said he’s been sober for almost a year, after facing his alcohol dependency.
“I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff,” the 21-year-old actor told GQ magazine, confiding that his drinking was an issue on the “Half-Blood Prince” set in 2009. “I really got away with that because there were many instances when a paparazzi shot like that could have been taken.
“There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me. There’s no shame in enjoying a quiet life. And that’s been the realization of the past few years for me.”
Daniel even skipped the premiere of the new “Deathly Hollows” flick to avoid temptation.
“As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me,” he says. “I’d just rather sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.
“I’m actually enjoying the fact that I can have a relationship with my girlfriend [Olive Uniacke] where I’m really pleasant and not [messed] up totally all the time.”
Wise words from a 21-year-old — but then again, Daniel has probably had to grow up faster than most people.
‘HSM’ Love Triangle?
Are Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale an item? The longtime pals and former “High School Musical” co-stars looked close at her 26th birthday party, the New York Daily News reported. And fellow “HSM” alum and Ashley BFF Vanessa Hudgens — Zac’s ex — was nowhere to be seen.
The pair frolicked on the beach in Malibu on Saturday; at one point, Zac carried a bikini-clad Ashley in his arms and kissed her neck.
But maybe the former Disney kids are really just platonic pals? Ashley tweeted that Zac is her “brother/best friend!!!” and posted a photo of her beau, director Scott Speer, kissing her cheek.
So PDA among friends is A-OK? Oh, these kids today.
Is there a rekindled love connection between Pete Wentz and Michelle Trachtenberg? The Fall Out Boy rocker and the “Gossip Girl” star sparked some, yes, gossip when they had coffee together in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The backstory: Pete and Michelle dated before he married now-ex-wife Ashlee Simpson.
Maybe Pete was just trying to make Ashlee jealous? Though the pair have remained on good terms as co-parents, reuniting for outings with son Bronx, Pete could not have been too thrilled to see recent tabloid photos of his baby mama cozying up to “Boardwalk Empire” actor Vincent Piazza. It’s bad enough seeing pictures of your ex’s new love on Facebook, never mind in mass media!
