College Roundup: CCSF men’s basketball extends winning streak to 20


The City College men’s basketball team won their 20th-straight game in a 69-65 nail-biter against Foothill College on Friday. Coming off the bench, forward Lewis Hayes led the Rams with 17 points on nine shots. Backcourt mates Terrell Brown and Michael Wright chipped in 12 and 11 points each. The Rams play next on Friday at Canada Community College.


The Academy of Art University women’s tennis team started their 2018 season with a decisive victory, defeating Stanislaus State by the score of 9-0. The No. 7-ranked Urban Knights won all three of their double matches and never conceded more than four games in any position. Their top doubles unit features twins Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp. The Thell-Lenntorps finished first while nearly blanking their opponents with an 8-1 score. The Urban Knights return to court next to host No. 18 Sonoma State on Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.


The University of San Francisco men’s basketball team beat Bay Area rival Santa Clara 70-59 on Saturday. The Dons never trailed in the game, surviving a late run by the Broncos. Junior guard Frankie Ferrari led the team in scoring with 19 points. Sophomore guard Jordan Ratinho chipped in with 17 on 7-for-10 shooting. The win puts the Dons’ record at 13-12 (5-7 in WCC) and they play Portland State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Leavey Center.


The San Francisco State baseball team lost a tough game, 11-4, against No. 25 Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The defeat puts the Gators’ record at 0-4, with all four losses coming against Azusa Pacific. SFSU had a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning of the series finale, but gave it up the next inning. Azusa Pacific broke a 4-4 tie by scoring seven runs to keep the Gators winless. San Francisco State plays the Academy of Art on Tuesday.
