Cold start to morning Wednesday but no record lows broken

It was a cold start to the day for commuters in San Francisco on Wednesday morning, yet no records were broken.

Wednesday morning’s low of 45 degrees didn’t reach The City’s record low of 38 degrees set in 1972. Increasing cloud coverage overnight coupled with light winds helped temperatures stay above the record low.

San Franciscans can expect a cloudy day with cooler temperatures between the upper 40s to low 50s. There is an increasing likelihood of rain from 4 to 6 p.m., right about commute time.

Commuters should be wary of debris on the roadway as gusty winds between 20 to 30 mph are possible as the rains move through. Heavier rains are expected Wednesday night with accumulations of a half inch by Thursday morning.

“The good news is the temperatures will be warming up overnight,” said Steve Anderson, meteorologist at the National Weather Services. “[Wednesday night’s] lows should be 53 degrees.”

Intermittent showers are expected into Saturday. Total accumulations should be between 1-to-2 inches by Sunday. These weekend rains may bring The City’s seasonal rainfall totals to normal levels. Currently, The City is about a half inch below normal for seasonal rainfall totals.
