Clift shows off bees, honey-themed menu

San Francisco’s Clift hotel, home to bees on its roof, introduced a honey-centric menu in its glamorous Redwood Room on Nov. 16, where a display with 7,000 bees sat on the bar.

On hand for the festivities were chef Dawn Taylor-Cole, beekeeper Roger Garrison and general manager Michael Pace, who said, “It makes sense to have bees and honey inside this redwood tree.”

Among the dishes served were chips & poke (ahi tuna, sauce, avocado, wasabi aioli and daikon sprouts); a cheese plate with fig jam, honey and rosemary salted almonds; and a mezze plate including beet hummus, baba ghanoush, tomato and cucumber raita and grilled naan.

Off the bar menu, the no-nonsense Cranberry Pie (with Maker’s Mark, bitters, sugar, cranberry juice and cinnamon) packed a punch.
