Public Library

New reading center to open

The San Francisco Public Library will open a new Western Addition Reading Center on Nov. 7.

The center will be located on the second floor of the African American Art and Culture Complex at 762 Fulton St.

The center is meant to act as an interim library while the Western Addition Branch is closed for renovation. The center will be open Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.

‘Community Clean Team’ to clean up Lake Merced

The City’s Community Clean Team will have a volunteer cleaning of the Lake Merced area today beginning at 9 a.m. The citywide volunteer program, which partners with city agencies, residents and merchants to clean up San Francisco neighborhoods, will be painting over graffiti in the area, sweeping the streets and planting trees near Lake Merced, from Sunset Circle to Lake Merced Boulevard. Sobriety checkpoint near Cow Palace to be held

The San Francisco Police Department will hold a sobriety checkpoint on Geneva Avenue near the Cow Palace on Saturday night to net drunken attendees of the Exotic Erotic Ball. The “Avoid the 14” enforcement will start at 8 p.m. and end around 1 a.m., according to San Francisco police Capt. Greg Corrales. Officers from The City, Amtrak Police, San Francisco Community College Police and the U.S. Park Police will participate in the enforcement.
