About $679,000 will come from the city’s operating budget reserve fund to help pay for overtime costs to staff a 48-bed jail pod at the San Bruno jail. Hennessey said the jail at the Hall of Justice is overcrowded, with 60 to 90 inmates having to sleep on the floor. Opening the housing unit at the San Bruno jail will “help us get most of the prisoners off the floor in our Hall of Justice jail,” Hennessey said.

Planning Commission

Members ponder replacement director

An effort to replace outgoing Planning Director Dean Macris is under way as Planning Commission members prepare to review résumés Thursday behind closed doors. Since the hiring of a new director is a human resources matter, commission members do not have to release the names of the candidates. Macris, 75, came back from retirement two years ago to serve as head of the Planning Department.

Workshop held to discuss Geary Street rapid transit plan

The San Francisco County Transportation Authority will hold a public workshop tonight to review and discuss results of the Geary Corridor Bus Rapid Transit study. Bus Rapid Transit is a bus that travels quicker than the average Muni line because it runs in a dedicated lane sheltered from traffic. The meeting will be held at the Jones Memorial Methodist Church, 1975 Post St., from 6 to 8 p.m.
