Parents preparing to enroll their kindergartner next year, or who have a child who is moving up to middle school or high school, can find out about public school options at the school district’s enrollment fair today. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, 99 Grove St. The first application deadline for enrollment is Jan. 19, 2007, with the exception of Lowell High School, which has a Dec. 22 deadline.
Staff from Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office will brief the Board of Supervisors Committee on Ending Gun and Gang Violence on The City’s efforts to stem violence in the community. The committee meeting will be held at City Hall at 10 a.m.
While San Francisco has contingency plans for a host of natural disasters, accidents andeven terrorist attacks, The City has no plans on what to do if the oil supply suddenly runs out. That was the subject of a discussion in the Local Agency Formation Commission on Friday, where commissioners heard of similar projects in other cities. The next step is for the Board of Supervisors to create a task force to examine the effects of a sudden oil shortage and to come up with plans to meet it.
Volunteers and the Department of Public Works will join forces today at Stern Grove to clean up the community. Volunteers can help sweep up litter, plant and tend to trees, and paint out graffiti. The effort begins at 9 a.m. at the corner of Sloat Boulevard and Vale Street.
