Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed Karen Hong Yee as director of the Office of the County Clerk, which issues marriage licenses and performs other nonjudicial administrative tasks. The San Francisco native previously served as the deputy director of the Department of Administrative Services. She has a degree in statistics and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi, along with District 5 Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, will attend a planning meeting for a new youth initiative in the Western Addition on Wednesday. Neighborhood residents, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, schools and other groups are invited to participate in the meeting for the group, called the Mobilization for Adolescent Growth in our Communities, or MAGIC. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss a proposal to build a 4,200-foot tunnel containing a 96-inch diameter pipeline for drinking water near Polhemus Road in San Mateo County. The pipeline, which would be built at depths ranging from 60 to 200 feet, would replace an existing pipe. The meeting will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Highlands Elementary School 2320 Newport Ave. in San Mateo.
