Two Board of Supervisors committees will hold a joint meeting Wednesday to vote on the development plan for Treasure Island.

The $1.2 billion plan would transform the 403-acre island and the smaller nearby Yerba Buena Island into a community of 6,000 homes and 300 acres of open space.

The Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee will vote on the development plan Wednesday, at 4 p.m., at City Hall, Room 250.

Vote expected on accepting emissions grant

A $130,000 state grant will help fund a city study of diesel emissions in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood and a long-term plan to reduce these dangerous emissions, which can cause respiratory illnesses.

The study will inventory all the sources of diesel emissions in the neighborhood, which is home to the majority of The City’s heavy industrial facilities. The city Department of the Environment will lead the study.

The Board of Supervisors City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee is expected to vote to accept the state grant on Monday, at 1 p.m., at City Hall, Room 263.

Western Addition reading room opens

The San Francisco Public Library opened the Western Addition Reading Room on Thursday while the neighborhood’s library is being renovated.

The new room, located on the second floor of the African American Art and Culture Complex at 762 Fulton St., will house collections from the library, including both fiction and nonfiction, as well as the library’s DVD collection.
