A seasoned law enforcement veteran with political chops could be entering the race for sheriff as soon as Monday.

Chris Cunnie, who has worked several law enforcement jobs in San Francisco including undersheriff to retiring Sheriff Michael Hennessey, hasn’t filed papers yet but has been putting out the word to friends.

“I am seriously, seriously considering it,” he said when reached by phone on Friday.

Cunnie said he’s going to spend the weekend with his two sons and make the decision as a family. He is still mourning the death of his son Patrick, who died in November.

The current race for sheriff is mainly between Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and Deputy Paul Miyamoto, although candidates seem to change their minds on a regular basis.
