A celebration today marks the 150th anniversary of the Kanrin Maru’s arrival to The City. The ship was the first Japanese vessel to cross the Pacific Ocean and land on American soil. Professor Naoyuki Agawa of Keio University — the oldest private university in Japan and founded by Fukuzawa Yukichi, who was aboard the Kanrin — will give a lecture honoring the historic milestone at the Hotel Kabuki at 6 p.m.
