A man was struck and killed by an inbound Muni light rail vehicle at the Castro Station on Thursday, stifling inbound and outbound service just before the height of rush hour.
The Fire Department responded around 4:40 p.m. and failed to revive the man. Initial reports were that the incident was a suicide, Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
The incident prompted a three-hour closure of the station, which reopened around 7:45 p.m.
Bus shuttles have been set up between the West Portal and Embarcadero stations and will continue carrying passengers between the West Portal and Embarcadero stations while Muni Metro service recovers, according to the transit agency.
On Wednesday, a 49-year-old man died after being struck by a Muni bus downtown.
