49ers running back Carlos Hyde discussed the upcoming season with reporters Wednesday.
The bruising back finished the 2015 season on the Injured Reserve list, but said if the season started tomorrow, he’d be fit to play.
In addition to getting his health back, Hyde reported he lost about seven pounds over the offseason, and that his decision to shed the weight wasn’t to prepare for Chip Kelly’s high-speed attack, according to 49ers.com.
“I wanted to be slim for a change,” he said, mirroring an attitude held by most Americans after the new year.
Hoping to replace the greatest football player of all time — Charles Woodson — the Raiders signed safety Reggie Nelson to a two-year deal on Wednesday, according to ESPN.
The former Bengal has 30 career interceptions and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2015. But if he is actually expected to replace Woodson, the 32-year-old needs to play for about six more years.
Pete Rose was hopeful that Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred would lift the ban on its all-time hit leader.
So now Charlie Hustle is doing what anyone disgraced for betting on the game should do: promote a sports book. He appears in a William Hill ad that began running Wednesday during an MLB broadcast.
Smart move for a man who clearly does not care anymore.
Kobe Bryant was asked if the Warriors should go for 73 on Wednesday.
According to Baxter Holmes, Mamba said, “If I’m them and I’ve got a chance to set a record, I’m trying to set the damn record.”
